Policies & Services

Borrowing Materials

The Hocking College Library is an OhioLINK member. All faculty, staff and currently registered students can borrow books from the Library or from other OhioLINK member libraries through the OhioLINK Catalog, or on site at other OhioLINK libraries.

Student IDs are preferred for checkout of Library materials. IDs can be obtained by visiting the Concourse area of the John Light Building. Students may alternately present a photo ID and provide their student ID number.

Loan periods for STUDENTS

Books

Students may have 15 books charged out to them at one time. Books from the Hocking College Library are loaned to students for 21 days and can usually be renewed six times.

Books from OhioLINK are loaned to students for 21 days and can usually be renewed six times. Renewals can be denied if a patron from the lending institution places a hold on the item.

Media

Media from other OhioLINK institutions can be borrowed for seven days and can usually be renewed three times.

Students may use media materials owned by Hocking College Library within the library only. If a student needs to use media for an in-class presentation, it must be checked out and picked up by the instructor.

Loan periods for FACULTY/STAFF

Books

Hocking College Library books are loaned to faculty and staff for the duration of the academic quarter.

OhioLINK books are loaned to faculty and staff for 42 days and can usually be renewed six times.

Community Borrowers

Members of the community who live within 50 miles of the Nelsonville campus can register to become patrons of the Hocking College Library. You will need to present a photo ID and proof of local residency.

Hocking College Library books are loaned to community borrowers for 21 days and can usually be renewed four times.

OhioLINK is not available to community borrowers.

Library Use Only Materials

Periodicals (magazines), reference, and closed reserve items are for use within the Library only.

Fines/Fees

The Hocking College Library does not charge overdue (per day) fines for its own materials, but materials borrowed from other OhioLINK libraries are $.50 per day for each day overdue. Recalled materials are $2.00 per day.

If an item borrowed from OhioLINK or the Hocking College Library is overdue more than 30 days, that item will be billed to your account. Hocking College Library charges replacement cost of the book plus a processing free (replacement cost varies by the value of the book). OhioLINK charges $125.00 for billed items; this charge is reduced to $50.00 if the item is returned.

There is a $.10 per page charge for all magazine articles ordered from other OhioLINK member libraries. Fees will vary for articles ordered through standard interlibrary loan channels.

Failure to meet financial obligations (fines, bills, etc.) to the Library will result in suspended Library privileges. Delinquent accounts will be billed to the patron's account with Hocking College. Unpaid charges can prevent the ability to register for classes and to request transcripts.

Photocopying

A public photocopier is available in the library's main area. Photocopies are $.10 per page. Change is available at the circulation desk.

Please do not attempt to perform any maintenance on the copier. If the copier shows an error message, needs paper, or you need general help making copies, please ask Library staff.

Study

The quiet study area is located at the rear of the library beyond the stack area. There is no talking in this area. Open table study is located at the front of the library directly across from the circulation desk. This area is intended for group and individual study, tutoring, computer use, and is active in nature.
